Fire Safety Division - What is it and what does it do?

The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service (SRPCBA) has the main competence of ensuring the compliance with the regulations on fire safety in buildings in the Azores.

Thus, with the DSCI activities, the intention is to:

  • Reduce the probability of occurring fires in buildings;
  • Limit the development of possible fires, circumscribing and minimizing the effects, namely the propagation of smoke and combustion gases;
  • Facilitate evacuation and rescue of the occupants at risk;
  • Allow the effective and safe intervention of rescue means.

The listed objectives are achieved through verification actions as to the compliance of the regulations regarding Fire Safety in Buildings, through the appreciation of Fire Safety Projects, within licensing, and the Self-Protection Measures (known as Prevention Plan and Emergency Plan).

Regarding surveys and inspections, the DSCI performs on-site verifications concerning the implementation of measures of fire safety in buildings under its competence.
