Sismo sentido nas ilhas do Faial, Pico e São Jorge
O Centro de Informação e Vigilância Sismovulcânica dos Açores (CIVISA) informa que às 06:47 (hora local = hora UTC-1), do dia 13 de dezembro foi registado um evento com magnitude 4,5 (Richter) e epicentro a cerca de 30 km a W do Capelo, ilha do Faial.
De acordo com a informação disponível até ao momento o sismo foi sentido com intensidade máxima IV/V (Escala de Mercalli Modificada) nas freguesias do Capelo e de Castelo Branco. O evento foi ainda sentido com as seguintes intensidades:

São Jorge

The Azores Regional Civil Protection and Fire Service recommends the following self protection measures:
| EARTHQUAKES |
| • Keep calm and expect possible replicas; |
| • Do not light matches or lighters as there may be gas leaks; |
| • See if your house has suffered severe damage and leave immediately if you suspect it is not safe; |
| • If you doubt about the integrity of gas, electric or water circuits, turn them off immediately; |
| • Never use the lifts; |
| • Confirm the expiry date of your emergency kit and re-check its content with your family;; |
| • See if there are any wounded and, if necessary, provide first aid; |
| • Be aware of broken glass or electricity cables. Prevent injuries by protecting yourself with proper clothes; |
| • Immediately clean all inflammable products that may have spilled; |
| • If possible, release your pets as they can take care of themselves; |
| • Stay away from beaches as a giant wave (tsunami) may occur; |
| • Turn on the radio, pay attention to the broadcasted recommendations and do not help disseminate rumors; |
| • Always follow the recommendations provided by the local authorities present as they are there to assist you; |
| • As soon as possible, verify the validity of your house and vehicle insurance policies and confirm if they cover seismic phenomena. |
